Coated Conductor Cylinders

3-C’s has developed a unique platform technology based on High Temperature Superconductivity (HTS), which has the potential to radically change large high power electrical machines making them much smaller and lighter. This is possible as the current carrying capacity of superconducting films is vastly greater than that of copper wire used in large heavy windings for conventional motors, generators, transformers etc.

The technology is based on cylindrical modules with multilayer superconducting coils deposited using advanced manufacturing techniques inspired by the highly successful semiconductor industry, but aimed at high power electrical machines rather than electronic devices.

This disruptive technology would have a major impact on energy generation / distribution, transport, medical - science research (eg MRI), manufacturing and other global markets. In the energy and transport sectors there are profound implications for energy savings and reduced carbon emissions.

Ecowatts

Ecowatts has developed the Thermal Energy Cell (‘TEC’), the cell converts electricity to heat at efficiencies far in excess of that of a conventional electrical heater.

Keld Energy

Keld Energy is a high growth technology development company founded to commercialise revolutionary process technology in the field of bio-energy developed in collaboration with the University of Manchester.

We have developed a novel highly efficient biomass fired co-generation process technology based upon gasification coupled with gas turbine technology. The technology is applicable to a variety of biomass fuels and markets. The first commercial application of the technology will be a combined heat and power (CHP) system for the poultry industry.

MJB Products

Mel Blythe of MJB Products was the winner of the E.ON Powergen Energy Lab 2006/7 competition.

MJB’s “Bath Boulder” is an innovative device for conserving water and energy. It is designed to reduce the amount of water required to fill a bath to a predetermined level, thus reducing the energy needed to heat it.

Eggxactly

James Seddon of Eggxactly was the winner of PowerGen's Energy Lab 2007/08 competition.

His novel egg cooker contains an electrical element that cooks eggs through direct contact heating and microprocessor control. The result being a convenient and quick egg cooker that saves a considerable amount of energy.

H2Renew

H2Renew is an early stage clean energy technology company with novel intellectual property related to the biological production of hydrogen from organic feedstocks. Funding from Advantage West Midlands and the Technology Transfer Fund of Birmingham Research and Development Limited has led to “proof of principle”. The next stage of business for H2Renew Ltd is to move to the pre-commercial or pilot plant stage.

MCD Engines

A novel rotary engine concept that is simple, robust, low-cost and low-maintenance. This new concept provides a means of converting fuel energy, which could take a number of forms including conventional fuels, biofuels or hydrogen, directly into a torque output. The arrangement of the engine lends itself to microgeneration and pumping applications, particularly in regions where maintenance is difficult and only poor quality fuels are available.

SolarEmpower

SolarEmpower's Solar Photonic Optoelectronic Transformer (SPOT) technology has advantages over standard solar cell technology. With conversion of sunlight to useful energy improved from 15% up to a minimum of 75%, also reducing the required use of expensive solar cell material by a minimum of 70%.

Wind Dam

The Wind Dam Advanced Wind Turbine System is an augmented vertical axis wind engine and generator system, aimed at utilising the wasted wind resource in the urban environment, generating power where it is needed thereby cutting costs and avoiding grid infrastructure limitations.

Thermodynamic Nanotechnologies

TDNT intends to manufacture Thermodynamic Energy Conversion Devices based upon a novel concept.

It is intended that the technology will find applications in residential boiler, air-conditioning, refrigeration and engine sytems and will provide reliable, low-cost, more efficient and environmentally beneficial compact alternatives to currently available commercial systems.
